Accelerated Reader

What is Accelerated Reader?

Quoted from the Accelerated Reader (AR) "Parents Handbook"
"AR is a computer program that helps teachers and librarians manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at their own level and reads it at their own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) AR gives children, teachers, and librarians feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice"

AR "Session" and Rewards

During each "session" a student is given a goal to reach in AR points. Generally, each session the goal will move slightly higher to encourage more reading. The 2019-2020 session dates, as well as the rewards for reaching goals are as follows:

 Session  Dates  Events
1 TBD  Popsicle Party
2 TBD   I Build Ice Cream Sunday
 3 TBD  Popcorn & Movie
4 TBD  Pizza with the Principal
Meet All 5 Goals   TBD TBD

If a student reaches their goal for each and every session, they have earned themselves an additional reward with all other students who met their five goals!
