Mrs. Geye

Dear K1 Families,

I am pleased to introduce myself to you and welcome your family to our school. My name is Mrs. Kate Geye and I will be your child’s kindergarten teacher. I have been teaching in the Etiwanda School District since 2001. I am also a proud original Colony Cub teacher. I have been lucky enough to watch our school blossom since we opened. I am thrilled to be part of the awesome Etiwanda Colony team again this year! I received my Bachelor’s Degree and my teaching credential at Montana State University. I completed my Master’s Degree in Education through the University of New England.

I believe that every child wants to learn and will develop new skills and acquire knowledge in their own individual way. My job is to encourage those interests in learning with your child and share as much information as possible with you about our progress. Your insights about your child’s growth are critical for me for our success. You are welcome to contact me at any time. However, Remind and email are the easiest and quickest forms of communication (

During our time of virtual education, I have procedures and expectations in place to help your child grow as a successful independent student. The following are tips to help get your child set up for virtual learning at home:

  • Provide a distraction-free work space with materials ready each day prior to logging on with class
  • Have a basket or bucket for all the materials your child will need
  • Charge your child’s Chromebook each night
  • Use student’s Google account to log in (not a parent account)
  • Have your child dressed, breakfast already eaten, sitting at study location with all materials in reach, and tabs opened no later than 8:15 each day (weekly schedule will be posted for you in my Google Classroom
  • If there are technical problems, send me a message through Remind
  • Have your child use headphones to limit distractions
  • Keep microphones muted unless otherwise directed (Exception:  We will begin and end with microphone on to say hi and bye.)
  • Keep camera on and stay in teacher’s view
  • Allow your child to struggle to succeed and allow me to guide them
  • Keep your child logged on all three instructional hours

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please let me know immediately so we can help your child together. I truly believe that the education of your child is achieved through a successful partnership between home and school. At Back-To-School Night, I will be discussing curriculum, procedures, and expectations. I look forward to seeing you at Back-To-School Night.

The Etiwanda School District provides live interactive virtual instruction through the Virtual Learning Model. Please note that during virtual sessions there is no expectation of privacy. Students and anything in their background will be in view of the class.
